On many levels, La Cala de Mijas (as is much of the Costa del Sol) is best known for its recreational activities. Water sports, sailing, golf and tennis are all enjoyed at La Cala de Mijas. Moreover the village centre offers a wide variety of highly regarded and popular bistros and pubs. There is also the well known La Cala Golf Resort and Hotel and with picture perfect grounds, is where many a weddings in Marbella has been staged. There are also a significant number of shops and larger supermarkets such as Mercadona and SuperSol in the village.
Horses and horse racing are also popular in La Cala de Mijas. A popular night out during the summer is the horseracing at the Hippodromo located just outside of La Cala de Mijas in the mountainous area of El Chapparal. A number of popular restaurants and bars are housed in the race course.
Children can also find a good deal to keep their interest in La Cala de Mijas. This does, of course, include the various recreational activities that have great appeal to people of all ages. In addition, there is the Tivoli World and the Fuengirola Zoo as well was entertaining splash parks that are most appealing to the young ones.
While tourists are coming to La Cala de Mijas in increasing numbers, they have not been swept into La Cala de Mijas as they have to other communities, villages and urbanisations in the area. Therefore, even at the height of the holiday travel season, La Cala de Mijas is not overrun. If you want to visit the busier beaches you only have to drive along the coast to Fuengirola or Benalmadena and even the smaller areas of Cabopino and Calahonda can get quite busy during the summer months. With fantastic all year round temperatures it is even possible to enjoy the beach in the cooler months of October and November when temperatures can still reach around 25 degrees celsius so do not forget to pack sun creams and your moisturising Elemis products to look after your skin whilst out in Spain.
Location of the La Cala on the Costa del Sol
La Cala de Mijas is located along the Costa del Sol and is but a short jaunt to the the airport at Malaga. The airport is about 25 minutes away from La Cala de Mijas. Along La Cala de Mijas is some of the most appealing and attractive beachfront that can be found anywhere along the Costa del Sol.
La Cala de Mijas is not far from the A7 motorway which allows smooth access to different locales all around the Costa del Sol. Bus service to the community is also good.
The infrastructure around La Cala is very good and it is easy enough to enjoy a number of day trips out in the car to surrounding tourist attractions from the coast.
